Getting Acrobat Reader to work with your web browser

Get the free Acrobat Reader.

If you are using Acrobat 4, then you must upgrade to Acrobat 6, otherwise you will not be able to use the quizzes.

If you are using Acrobat 6.0, then you should upgrade to a later version, as there are some bugs in Acrobat 6.0.

The best source of instructions and troubleshooting is on http://www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html. Please try the suggestions here before asking your lecturers for help.

If you are using Windows, then the quiz should appear in the browser window, not in a separate Acrobat window. If it does open separately then you will not be able to submit results. You must configure your browser and Acrobat properly, so follow the instructions above.

If you are using Mac OS X 10.3 or later, then Acrobat will open a separate window, and the quiz will not appear in the browser window. Also, the quiz will have "Anonymous student" on the front page instead of your name. This does not matter, your access and your results will still be recorded and the quiz will function correctly.

If you are using a Mac OS X version earlier than 10.3, you may not be able to sumbit the quiz or see the worked solutions. You should upgrade your operating system, or do the quiz on campus.

Unsupported browsers include Opera, iCab, old versions of AOL. Recommended browsers include Netscape, Mozilla, Safari, Internet Explorer.

If you are not sure whether your quiz results were recorded, look at the text below (or on the page after) the "End Quiz" button. After you have clicked "End Quiz", it should give you a message about your score. This message will contain your name. If it still says "Your quiz results have not been recorded", then your quiz didn't send us any data to record, so check how Acrobat is installed.

You may also check your quiz results from the quiz login page - read it to find out how.

If you still have technical problems with the quizzes, email your lecturer, carefully describing exactly what you did and what happened. Please include your student ID and your name.

If nothing works and you cannot do the quizzes from home, then do them on campus. Inability to get the quizzes to work on your home computer is not a reason for us to give you an extension on the due date.
